We are committed to protecting your privacy. Because GermanPod is designed to be a learning tool, we limit data collection to only what is strictly necessary for the App to function.

1. Information We Collect

A. Device Permissions

To provide core features, the App requests access to the following on your device:

• Photo Library & Camera: We require access to your photos and camera so you can upload or take pictures of German text (such as menus, signs, or books).
• Microphone & Speech Recognition: We may require access to your microphone and speech recognition services to support text-to-speech and audio features for language learning.

B. User-Provided Data

• Language Preferences: We store your native language and your current German learning level (e.g., A1-C2) locally on your device to customize the vocabulary generated for you.

C. Automatically Collected Information

• Analytics and Crash Reports: We use Google Firebase to collect basic, anonymous analytics and crash reports. This helps us understand how the App is being used and fix bugs. This data does not personally identify you.
• Purchase Information: We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat collects anonymous device identifiers and purchase history to securely unlock premium features across your devices.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• To power the AI translation and vocabulary generation: When you upload a photo or type text, the data is sent to our backend AI provider (Google Gemini API) exclusively for the purpose of analyzing the text and returning translated vocabulary and podcast episodes.
• To manage subscriptions: To verify your active GermanPod PRO status.
• To improve the App: Anonymous analytics help us improve the App's performance and design.

3. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share your data with third-party service providers necessary for the App to function:

• Google Gemini API: Photos and text prompts are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the AI responses.
• Google Firebase: Used for anonymous analytics and app stability monitoring.
• RevenueCat: Used securely to manage App Store subscriptions and track purchase history.

4. Data Storage and Security

• Local Storage: Your translation history, generated episodes, and language preferences are stored locally on your own device. We do not store this information on external servers.
• API Transmission: Data sent to the Gemini API and RevenueCat is transmitted securely. We do not retain copies of your photos on our servers after the AI has finished processing them.

5. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or on our App Store/Google Play Store page.
